De atlas heeft als doel om “niet-specialisten toegang te geven tot informatie over deze ongeziene wereld in de vorm van een veelomvattende wegwijzer door de ondergrondse omgeving, de organismen die daar leven en de diverse functies van het bodemleven.”

Bodemecologen Wim van der Putten en Kelly Ramirez (NIOO-KNAW) zijn blij met het mandaat vanuit de top om eindelijk iets aan dat gebrek aan kennis te doen."
