The time has long since past when it became fashionable to talk about a new world order. The collapse of the Soviet Union provided an opportunity to fashion one. But instead of using that opportunity to create a new security architecture in Europe, Nato expanded eastwards as the military anchor for democracy promotion. Not content to have seen off one global military competitor in the Soviet Union, the western military industrial complex and the think-tanks they funded scurried around for a worthy replacement. When 11 September happened, they thought they were in business again. For a brief moment, al-Qaida seemed to fulfil some of the characteristics of communism: it could pop up anywhere in the world; it was an existential enemy, driven ideologically and uncontainable through negotiation; and it was potentially voluminous. Neither the doctrines of the pre-emptive strike, nor attacking a foreign country abroad to ensure security at home, were new. Swap the domino theory of the Vietnam era for the crescent of crisis of the Bush and Obama eras, and you had the same formula for a foe that hopscotched across the globe.
So the paradox is that while US military power retains global reach (it is working on supersonic cruise missiles, and long-range drones) its stewardship as world leader, as a generator of the next big idea, is gradually ending. There may come a time when international institutions are rebuilt to fill this vacuum. But that time is not yet. Until then, a new world disorder would be nearer the mark."

Dat ook de morele rechtvaardiging, de ideologische grondslag, het sociale pact dat het Westen in stand leek te houden volledig is vervallen, mag blijken uit de groeiende onderdrukking en criminalisering van een kritische bevolking. Het Westen is niet in staat door overtuigingskracht en moreel overwicht het volk te leiden. Het volk is een bedreiging geworden voor de machthebbers, de banken en de autoritaire politici. Met andere woorden, dit is een systemic failure, een ontbinding van het hele systeem. Alleen met brute macht en indoctrinatie is het systeem nog in stand te houden. Dat betekent dat de VS nu de facto een fascistische staat is die het recht heeft elke burger, waar ook ter wereld, militair aan te grijpen, gevangen te nemen en zonder rechten voor onbepaalde tijd vast te houden. Gezien het verleden van de VS met folter en moord kunnen we verwachten dat 'Das Militär' zich ook gerechtigd zal voelen nu nog meer te folteren en te moorden. Het einde van de Westerse beschaving. Niet meer en niet minder. Het einde van 'freedom and liberty'. Dit is geen boutade meer, dit is de werkelijkheid die al enige decennia in de maak is.
De Bill of Rights, de amendementen op de Amerikaanse Grondwet die de natuurlijke rechten vastleggen van vrijheid en eigendom, en de persoonlijke vrijheden als de vrijheid van meningsuiting, eredienst, vergadering, het recht om veilig te zijn in persoon, huizen, documenten en bezittingen tegen onredelijke doorzoekingen en inbeslagnames, het recht op een eerlijk proces, enz., is bij deze afgeschaft.

De Verenigde Staten beschouwt zichzelf in permanente staat van oorlog, ook op eigen grondgebied. Sinds de oprichting van de USA is deze staat bezig met het veroveren van grondgebied, het exporteren van revoluties en het onderdrukken van de bevolking zowat overal ter wereld. En Obama maakt daarin geen verschil. Het is heel waarschijnlijk dat het einde van het Westerse imperium veel bloed zal kosten. De nomenklatura geeft zich niet zomaar gewonnen. Men gebruikt alle middelen die ter beschikking staan.

Israël is een nationalistische, racistische staat geworden. Het absurde is dat de ultranationalisten, diegenen die je terecht zou kunnen bestempelen als 'nazi's' de andere joden uitmaken voor nazi's. Een intrieste ontwikkeling. Van leren uit de geschiedenis is geen sprake. Het is om te huilen. Datzelfde land is ook een bedreiging voor de omringende landen.

Het ergste is dat Israël gesteund wordt door heel wat psychopathische politici van de VS. Ik hou mijn hart vast bij de volgende Amerikaanse verkiezingen. Maar moet je dan op een Obama stemmen die net de Bill of Rights heeft afgeschaft? Een gigantisch dilemma.
Ondertussen wordt onze maatschappij steeds absurder ook in kleine dingen.
